Dreams are pretty much like seeds in a garden. Sometimes they get planted long before they sprout and grow. I found some red potatoes while digging around in my garden trying to spruce it up after a tornado and hail storm. I didn’t know I had planted potatoes! Obviously they came from the compost pile that I had spread around in early spring to enrich the soil. Do you have dreams and desires lying dormant?
We’ve all had dreams or seeds planted that lodged deep in our spirits or our hearts. Sometimes – actually oftentimes – these dreams are planted when we are young, still dreamers, when we believed anything was possible. When we thought we could do or have or become anything we set our hearts and eyes on – until somebody said, “You can’t,” or “That’s not practical.” or “We just don’t do those things.”
If you find yourself daydreaming about the what-ifs, or wondering if you’ve somehow missed the proverbial boat, or maybe just find you have a gnawing, unnamed discontent that you can’t put put into words, think back to that thing you always wished you could do. Start with prayer:
Calling on the Master Gardener: Dear God, awaken in me the dreams and desires that have been covered in dust and dirt. Help me to examine each dream and determine if and when I should pursue it. Give me courage, wisdom, and confidence to build my dreams, and I will give all the glory to You, the one who makes all things possible. Amen.
Preparing the Soil:
What seeds have you planted that you may have forgotten about or given up pursuing? Finishing that degree? Starting your own business? Learning to play the guitar or taking that dream vacation?
What things are holding you back from letting that dream unfold? List them here and then examine each one to see if they are valid obstacles.
Sowing the Word: Do you know that God wants you to prosper in your dreams and desires and that He is the one who places those seeds in your heart? Read Psalm 37: 3&4 and Psalm 145:16 and then thank God for the dreams He’s given you. Ask Him to direct your next steps and allow your dreams to sprout.
Establishing Roots: Psalm 20:4, Psalm 92:12-15, Isaiah 30:21, Psalm 32:8, Proverbs 3:5&6
Garden Wisdom: Read seed packets carefully and plant according to recommended spacing and depth. Not all seeds will sprout but giving them the optimal conditions for growth will ensure that your garden is full and vibrant.
